Pregnant woman hoisted from cruise ship into Coast Guard helicopter off Port Everglades
PORT EVERGLADES — A U.S. Coast Guard crew hoisted a pregnant woman from a cruise ship into a helicopter flying high above after getting a call she needed medical attention, officials said Monday.
The 8:30 p.m. Sunday rescue from the Carnival Glory about 30 miles east of Port Everglades was caught on video aboard the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter.
A 36-year-old U.S. citizen who was about five to six months pregnant was safely hoisted into the helicopter and taken to Broward General Medical Center, according to the Coast Guard.
The woman's name and medical problem were not released.
The Coast Guard in Miami received a 7:15 p.m. call from the Carnival Glory that requested the woman be rushed to a hospital, officials said.
The Carnival Glory departed the Port of Miami at 4 p.m. Sunday and was on the way to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
