Five Plead Guilty in St Kitts Cruise Robbery

Posted by

In recent news, five St Kitts men pled guilty to a robbery that took place in November 2010, where cruise passengers were held up while en route to Brimstone Hill. The men appeared in court last week and pleaded guilty, much to the relief of the Prime Minister of St Kitts who stated the plea saved the court time. St Kitts aims to reduce crime and protect all visitors and residents, so the robbery was a huge step back for the Caribbean island’s attempt to boost its image as a tourist destination.
The charges for the cruise passenger crime were robbery, assault with intent to rob, accessory before the fact and conspiracy to rob, which were applied to the five guilty men. The armed robbery that took place victimized 17 tourists aboard a tour bus. Following the incident, two cruise lines temporarily banned visits to St Kitts. Sentencing has yet to commence.
