Man Pleads Guilty to Rape of Cruise Passenger Minor

Posted by

Luiz Scavone, 20, was sentenced for the rape of a 15-year-old girl aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The sexual assault took place on the Allure of the Seas cruise liner and occurred during a cruise earlier this year. Scavone and his 15 year old brother were arrested January 3 for sexual assault after luring a teenage passenger from Iowa to a private stateroom after meeting her at an onboard night club.

Scavone is a Brazilian citizen, and following a year in prison he will be deported back to Brazil. Should he return to the US, he will have to tell officials and will require supervision as a sex offender. His younger brother has already returned to Brazil. Cruise ship rape is a very real and common crime, and it is important that passengers know the dangers that can occur aboard a cruise ship.
