Disney World Gets Sued By Jungle Cruise Accident Victim

Our cruise accident lawyers have represented both passengers and crewmembers who have been injured aboard various major cruise lines, but recently, one woman was hurt on a different kind of cruise – a Disney World Jungle Cruise. The victim has filed a lawsuit against Disney World, alleging she was injured on the Jungle Cruise ride at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida while celebrating her daughter’s sixth birthday party earlier this year.

According to the injury lawsuit, the victim, Stacey Holdorff, of Valrico, Florida, alleges she was trying to disembark the Jungle Cruise ride on Jan. 8 when another boat that was full of passengers crashed into the back of her boat, causing her to be thrown backward. Her daughter, Tiffany Johnston, was also thrown back and slammed into her father’s chest. A third person, a Disney cast member, was also injured, though their name was not mentioned.

Holdorff, 41, had to be transported to a local hospital after suffering neck and spinal injuries. Since the accident, she has not been able to work in her field as a licensed medical aesthetician. Holdorff is unable to sit or stand for extended periods of time and is not able to carry any weight.

Aside from the physical injuries she sustained, Holdorff claims the accident was a traumatic experience for her family, especially for her young daughter. She explained they have been longtime annual pass holders and had taken “hundreds” of trips to Disney World in the past several years.

“Disney was a place we celebrated many milestones. It was her favorite,” said Holdorff. “Watching her mom being carted away in an ambulance was devastating to her. She doesn’t want to go back.”

Holdorff filed the lawsuit on Friday in Orange County and is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, but according to her attorney, her injuries will cost “hundreds of thousands of dollars.” If Disney World is found to have been at fault for the incident due to an act of negligence or wrongdoing, Holdorff may in fact receive a much larger settlement than she had originally envisioned. A jury trial is being sought.
